Cloud acceleration provider Cotendo will be acquired by fellow content delivery company Akamai in a deal worth $268 million.
The acquisition was announced by Akamai on Thursday.
As a company, Contendo provides acceleration solutions that cover areas including SSL, web applications, Advanced DNS, and more.
The move expands Akamai’s company portfolio, which currently includes cloud content delivery services on various devices including mobile.
Discussing the matter in a press release, Akamai CEO Paul Sagan stated, “As we look to accelerate growth across the dynamic landscapes of cloud and mobile optimization, we are excited to be joining forces with Cotendo.”
“Cotendo’s technology, partnerships and people are a strong complement to Akamai. Together, we believe there is tremendous opportunity for our combined technologies as enterprises embrace the move to the cloud and seek solutions for an increasingly mobile world,” Sagan continued.
Contendo has a presence in both the United States and Israel.
Meanwhile, Contendo CEO Ronnie Zehavi said that because of the move, his company anticipates that its “customers and partners will gain access to a comprehensive, global platform and wider portfolio of leading-edge services supported by some of the most experienced providers in the industry.”
Akami is headquartered in the U.S. with locations in Europe. Some on the company’s most high profile clients have included Adobe, MTV Networks, and USA Today. For further information regarding the matter, view a press release here (akamai.com).
